"Beginning of Autumn" is the thirteenth solar term in the twenty-four solar terms and the first solar term in autumn.

"Li" means beginning, and "Qiu" means the ripening of grains. All things begin to grow from luxuriant growth to maturity. However, although the beginning of autumn has arrived, it is still in the "dog days" period. The heat is difficult to dissipate for a while, and it will take some time for the temperature to drop.

Beginning of Autumn Customs:

1. Drying crops: Drying crops is a typical agricultural custom. In Hunan, Jiangxi, Anhui and other places, villagers living in mountainous areas have very few flat lands in their villages due to the complex terrain. They have to use the front and back of their houses, their own windowsills, and rooftops to dry crops. Over time, it has evolved into a traditional agricultural custom.

2. Biting crops: Also known as "biting autumn". Eating watermelon, cantaloupe or peach on the day of the Beginning of Autumn means that the hot summer is unbearable, and when the Beginning of Autumn comes, bite it. Eating more fruits and vegetables in the autumn season can also prevent autumn dryness.

3. Putting on weight in autumn: When autumn comes, on the basis of ensuring food diversity and reasonable matching, scientifically "putting on weight in autumn".
